You get what you focus on

When you are pursuing something new, whether it be a big dream or simply a goal, it’s so important to maintain your focus on what you are aiming for because it is just so easy to be knocked off your path by obstacles.

The thing is, most obstacles don’t suddenly appear — they appear because that’s where you are directing your focus.

Of course, in everyday life we face challenges and issues come up that need to be addressed. But challenges and issues don’t have to grow into obstacles that stop us from moving forward. And, we certainly don’t need to go looking for them!

I’m sure you’ve heard this biblical quote:

If you go looking for problems, then that’s what you are going to find.

For most of us, we’ve never even noticed that our standard ‘go-to’ position when we get a new idea is to list off all the things that we should watch out for, all the things that could go wrong, and come up with all the reasons that idea just won’t work.

For most of us, that is our default position. That is, until we notice that this is what we are doing.

And that’s a pretty big step. To catch yourself out about jumping straight to the negative.

Staying focused on what could go wrong is the best way to guarantee staying stuck in your current circumstances.

Your energy goes into where your focus is.

If you continue to focus on the problems, your energy will keep you mulling around in those problems. Of course you need to deal with any problems that come up, but don’t put any more energy into them than what is needed.

Instead, shift your focus back onto your goals, so that your energy continues to propel you forward.

Just remember: You get what you focus on.
