It’s not selfish to live your life true to yourself

One of the things I help clients navigate when they are actively creating change in their life is the reaction or response by the people around them.

Many people in the client’s life will be supportive. However, it is pretty much guaranteed that there will be people who will respond negatively when they see the client stepping out of the norm or not being or doing what’s expected of them.

That can be challenging, particularly if the lack of support comes from those we love. Clients can struggle with the thought that stepping in to be, do and have what they would love, might be considered selfish. In fact, those unsupportive people might actually use that terminology to the client.

My response, and my support, is to help the client understand that living your life as you want it is not an act of selfishness.

We only get one life. This is it. So, the most important thing you, me, or anyone can do, is live a life true to ourselves. That’s not being selfish. That’s stepping into the greatest version of you and who you were placed on this earth to be.  It’s okay to go ahead and live your true life.
