A dear friend of mine has written a memoir, soon to be published, about a time in her life that was truly challenging and from which she not only survived, but went on to thrive and build a highly successful life.
I had the privilege of interviewing her recently and I’d like to share her story with you.
Khatija – or as I have known her for over 30 years, Kay – grew up in the north of England. In her late teens, she ran away from home so she could continue in her studies but she was tricked into coming back home. She was then taken to Pakistan under the pretext of the trip being a holiday. That pretext covered the real intention which was being forced into a marriage not of her choosing.
Captivity, silence and survival is what followed.
However, that’s not the end of her story.
Kay’s story is inspirational for all, and is especially important for those who feel trapped by family expectations or find themselves is truly challenging circumstances.
As you’ll see through Kay’s story, whatever your circumstances may be, it is proof that survival IS possible. Thriving IS possible. And living the life on YOUR terms – your true life – is possible.
As you watch the video, see if you can spot the 5 steps fundamental steps to creating change in your life.
5 Fundamental Steps To Create Change
- Identify your destination – what is it you want?
- Make a decision to go after what you want – decide that the status quo is not an option;
- Just start – take one step at a time and allow the plan to evolve as you go;
- Be prepared to stand alone – accept that you won’t always be supported; and
- Stay focused on what you want – don’t’ look for why it won’t work, keep looking for what will make it work
